This site sets no cookies and serves no advertising. Here is, service by service, what goes through third parties when you read it.
Audience measurement: GoatCounter
To know which posts are read and where readers come from, the site counts its visits with GoatCounter, an independent, open-source service with no cookies and no persistent identifier. It keeps only totals: the page viewed, the site you came from, the browser, the operating system, the screen size and the country. Your IP address and browser are used for the day’s count but are not stored; no person can be identified from this data. Visits are not matched with any other site.
Hosting
The site is hosted by GitHub Pages (GitHub, United States), which may log visitors’ IP addresses for the security of the service.
Email subscription
The “Subscribe” form passes your address through Formspree. The author keeps it outside any marketing service and uses it only to announce a new post, in blind copy. To unsubscribe, simply reply to one of those messages.
Libraries and external content
To display formulas, charts and icons, pages load libraries from
jsDelivr and Font Awesome; the share buttons come from
AddToAny. The videos on the Videos
page are embedded from YouTube in “no cookie” mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Like any
web server, these servers receive your IP address when the content loads.
The author’s statistics tool
The “Audience” application is the author’s personal tool. With his authorization, it reads the statistics of his own YouTube channel (@energy_alternatives) read-only, to display them on his computer. It accesses no other user’s data; what it reads is not published, shared or sold. The authorization can be revoked at any time in the Google account settings.
