This site sets no cookies and serves no advertising. Here is, service by service, what goes through third parties when you read it.
Audience measurement: GoatCounter
To know which posts are read and where readers come from, the site counts its visits with GoatCounter, an independent, open-source service with no cookies and no persistent identifier. It keeps only totals: the page viewed, the site you came from, the browser, the operating system, the screen size and the country. Your IP address and browser are used for the day’s count but are not stored; no person can be identified from this data. Visits are not matched with any other site.
Hosting
The site is hosted by GitHub Pages (GitHub, United States), which may log visitors’ IP addresses for the security of the service.
Email subscription
The “Subscribe” form passes your address through Formspree. The author keeps it outside any marketing service and uses it only to announce a new post, in blind copy. To unsubscribe, simply reply to one of those messages.
Libraries and external content
To display formulas, charts and icons, pages load libraries from
jsDelivr and Font Awesome; the share buttons come from
AddToAny. The videos on the Videos
page are embedded from YouTube in “no cookie” mode (youtube-nocookie.com). Like any
web server, these servers receive your IP address when the content loads.
The author’s tools for his YouTube channels
The “Audience” application is the author’s personal tool. It runs on his computer and is offered to no one else. With his authorization, it uses the YouTube API Services for two things, and only on his own two channels (@energy_alternatives in French and @energy_alternatives_en in English):
- reading the channel’s statistics (views, subscribers, watch time), to display them on his computer;
- publishing his own videos: uploading a video, its thumbnail and its captions, adding it to one of the channel’s playlists and posting a first comment.
It accesses no other user’s data and collects no personal data; what it reads is not published, shared or sold. The authorization token stays on the author’s computer. The tool uses the YouTube API Services: by using it, the author agrees to the YouTube Terms of Service, and data is handled under the Google Privacy Policy. The authorization can be revoked at any time in the Google account security settings.
Storage and deletion. The statistics read by the tool are stored only on the author’s computer, for his own use. If the authorization is revoked, the authorization token and the stored statistics are deleted. Since the tool stores no data about anyone else, there is no other data to delete; any question can be sent through the About page.
